Glenavon and Coleraine played out an eight-goal thriller at Mourneview Park.

The Bannsiders took the lead in the second minute through Stewart Nixon but were reduced to 10 men when Gareth McConaghie was sent off for bringing down Peter Campbell.

Former Glenavon player Ben Doherty tapped in his first of the afternoon on 18 minutes when Curtis Allen’s effort came back off the crossbar.

The hosts pulled a goal back on 24 minutes through Conor McCloskey before Daniel Purkis made it 2-2 after the half-hour mark.

However, Doherty sent the Bannsiders into half time interval in front from the penalty spot, and the midfielder completed his hat-trick on 58 minutes to make it 4-2.

Michael O’Connor got Glenavon back into the game on 69 minutes from the penalty spot, and Matthew Fitzpatrick levelled the scores on 78 minutes.

Glenavon were denied what looked like a clear penalty as an exciting game drew to a close.
