GLENAVON V DUNGANNON SWIFTS, A LOOK AHEAD

On Tuesday 14th November 2023 Glenavon continues its Mid-Ulster Cup campaign with a home semi-final against Dungannon Swifts.

We want to win the match and reach the final, so we will field a strong team,” said Stephen McDonnell. “The players have done very well recently. This is another opportunity to build confidence and get another positive result.”

The Dundalk man was delighted with Saturday’s 1-0 victory against Ballymena United. “I was particularly pleased at the manner in which we controlled the game,” he added. “We played good football, imposed ourselves on the opposition and created decent scoring chances. I don’t think there was a single spell during the 90 minutes when we looked as if we might concede. The only disappointment was the fact that we only scored once.”

Ten days ago, Dungannon proved a difficult opponent for McDonnell’s side. The East Tyrone side was arguably unfortunate to lose 1-0. “I think we were the better team in the first 45 minutes, held our own for 25 minutes after half time and then had to absorb some pressure at the end of the match,” Stephen continued. “They are a good side with some talented young players but then we are too. I think we should take confidence from our recent performance and result against them.”

Stephen reports no new injury problems. “We have one or two players with minor knocks,” he revealed. “We will make a decision about them on Tuesday.”

The match against Dungannon is sponsored by Trevor and Lewis Harbinson. The ball sponsor is Barry Craig and Ethna Ferran. The ‘Player of the Match’ sponsor is Clifford Kidd and the Triangle Glenavon Supporters’ Club. All are seasoned benefactors. Their continued financial support is very much appreciated.
