“The fact that today’s game goes ahead, the only Irish Cup game to survive the weather, is entirely down to those volunteers who offered their services in response to the Club’s call for help to clear the snow off the pitch and also the car park and surroundings areas.

“They came to assist Club staff yesterday afternoon and night and indeed some were here, including our manager, until 2:30 this morning. They were back again from 8am until the ‘Game on’ decision just after 12:30. They came with shovels, wheelbarrows, blowers and tractors.

“It was a wonderful community effort of which Glenavon FC and indeed the town of Lurgan can be immensely proud and a special word of thanks to Lurgan Rugby Club also for their assistance.

“To each and every one of those volunteers, male and female, young and old, many, many thanks on behalf of the Board. You did yourselves and our club proud.”
