Andy Hall’s superb curling free kick put Glenavon ahead in the 20th minute after Paul Dickson had tripped Eoin Bradley just outside the Welders penalty area.
Bradley doubled the lead in the 63rd when he rose higher than the defender to nod in Daniel Kearns cross from close range.
Glenavon dozed off for a moment as Dan McMurray rolled a quickly taken free kick into the box for Scott Davidson to lash beyond Jonny Tuffey to give the Welders hope three minutes later.
Nine minutes from time Bradley again headed in from close range from Hall’s corner and Joel Cooper made it four in stoppage time after he was picked out by Gary Hamilton’s pass and wove his way past two or three defenders in the box before slotting it past Dougherty.
Bradley really should have completed a hat trick two minutes from time, putting a free header over the bar when he was picked out by Cooper’s cross from the left.
