Glenavon’s young goal keeper Conner Byrne is in the headlines this week after making his first team debut at the age of just 14 years and 245 days in Monday night’s Mid-Ulster Cup Semifinal victory against Portadown at Shamrock Park.

The Lismore High School pupil featured on the BBC NI News website, the Belfast Telegraph, and BelfastLive, as well as on Twitter and Facebook amongst others. “The youngest player I have records on from before Conner is Jason Greenway, who ironically was also from Glenavon. He was 15 years and 174 days old when he made his debut against Ballinamallard on November 24, 2012,” football statistician Marshall Gillespie said when contacted by BelfastLive reporter Gareth Fullerton.
