Paul Millar had to cope with some good-natured heckling from the Glenavon changing room as he did his post-match interview with Gary Ellis of the Lurgan Mail! Click the picture below to watch.

Gary Hamilton makes just one enforced change as he takes no risk with David Elebert who was withdrawn on Wednesday with a tight hamstring and Kris Lindsay takes his place in the starting line up.

Late changes for both sides

Simon Kelly’s hamstring tightened up in the warm-up so James Singleton came into the starting line-up, in midfield, with Conor Dillon moving to centre half. Andy McGrory came onto the bench.

Warrenpoint’s Sean Donnelly also broke down in the warm up and Barry Gray brought in goalkeeper Martin Marron to fill the space on the bench

Kevin Braniff’s low cross deflected past keeper Jonathan Parr by the unfortunate Mark Clarke and into the net to put the visitors ahead in the 21st minte. Kyle Neill had played the striker in down the right side with a quick free kick and he fired over a low cross which Parr went to meet at the near post but Clarke’s unwanted touch took it past him.

Before the opening goal it was the hosts who were looking the livelier with Danny Hughes forcing a very good save from Jonny Tuffey when he rose to tip a 25 yard shot round the post and the same player saw a low shot rebound off the inside of the right hand post and go across goal and out for a goal kick past the other post.

After going in front Glenavon did get stronger and Eoin Bradley was just inches away from making contact at the back post as he slid in to try to get a touch to Andy Hall’s cross.

Bradley probably should have doubled Glenavon’s lead in the final minute of the half when he out-muscled the defender and got onto the end of a ball over the top from Rhys Marshall but he put his left-foot volley wide of the near post.

Bradley made no mistake with his next chance which came in the 56th minuter when Dermott McVeigh miscontrolled a through ball from Marshall and the Derry man gathered it into his stride and buried it past Parr.

Joel Cooper was denied by Parr when he nut-megged a defender and found himself one on one with the keeper but he got the reward for his all-round excellent play minutes later. He nut-megged another player before turning inside from the left wing and making a run along the 18 yard line. He hit a low right foot shot that beat Parr who was at full stretch as it went in off the inside of the post to open his goal-scoring account for Glenavon.
