Though he was disappointed to lose the game to a debatable penalty 13 minutes from time, Gary Hamilton was very pleased with the performance of his players in their first competitive game of the season against a side that is already almost half-way through the Icelandic season.

Simon Kelly’s opening goal could prove vital when KR visit Mourneview Park for this Thursday night’s second leg which kicks off at 7:45pm.

5: An early sign of Glenavon’s threat when Simon Kelly directs a header on target from Andy Hall’s free kick but Magnusson makes a comfortable save.

12: 0-1 Kelly heads in from a corner by Andy Hall

20: Harsh booking for Kris Lindsay. Previously Gunnarsson got away with a bad challenge on Bradley which has left him struggling with a back problem

25: Mark Sykes picks up the ball and runs towards goal, firing a low shot from outside the box that the keeper holds fairly easily.

27: Morten Beck (11) glances Hauksson’s corner wide of the far post.

34: Booking for Ciaran Martyn

35: KR work a neat training ground move from the resulting free kick and it takes two brave blocks by Kelly and Sykes to clear the danger.

40: 1-1 Palmason equalises with a right foot volley from 12 yards following a throw in on the right. KR stole about 10 yards on the throw and Palmason got on the end of a cross with a great finish into the top corner.

43: Glenavon in danger of conceding again before half time when KR’s impressive right back, the other Morten Beck (2) races down the right wing and cuts inside Joel Cooper before slotting a low ball across the box that luckily evades the two KR strikers.

Half time.

48: KR obviously gaining in confidence after that equaliser before half time bring the best out of Jonny Tuffey who pulls off a manificent double save to keep it at 1-1

53: Chopart smashes a shot off the Glenavon cross bar

55: Andrew Doyle replaces Lindsay

57: Tuffey tips Sigurdsson’s shot over the bar.

59: Gunnarsson finally picks up a yellow after his latest foul on Bradley.

60: A ball over the top finds Greg Moorhouse but he can’t keep his volley on target from the edge of the box.

62 Simon Kelly is cautioned. That was ‘one for the team’ as they say.

69: Beck (11) smashes a header off Tuffey’s cross bar and the ball rebounds down and is cleared.

71: Gary Hamilton replaces Moorhouse

77: 2-1 (Fridjonsson pen) Controversy as the Belgian referee points to the spot, adjudging that Cooper had tripped Fridgeirsson on the right side of the box. Glenavon players reaction suggests they feel it’s harsh and it certainly looked as though Cooper got a touch to the ball. Doyle is cautioned for protesting but KR substitute Holmbert Fridjonsson slots home the spot kick with Tuffey going the right way but it’s a very good penalty, right in the bottom corner.

82: Andy Kilmartin replaces Martyn, Josepsson replaces Fridgeirsson
