MAG-NIFICENT MOVE AS PETER JOINS LURGAN BLUES

Glenavon Football Club are delighted to announce the permanent signing of 23‑year‑old defender Peter Maguire from Dungannon Swifts.

Maguire arrives at Mourneview Park having built an impressive early career across the Irish League and League of Ireland. The left‑footed centre‑back, who can also operate comfortably at left‑back, began his senior journey with Ballinamallard United before moving to Sligo Rovers, where he continued his development in a highly competitive environment. Most recently, at Dungannon Swifts he featured in the NIFL Premiership, domestic cup competitions and even UEFA Conference League qualifiers, gaining valuable experience against top‑level opposition.

Glenavon Manger Michael O’Connor said of his latest signing,

“We’re delighted to have Peter on board. He comes with good pedigree having played over 20 games for Dungannon last year. I’ve said it every time I’m asked that we need to sign the right person as much as the right player and I believe in Peter we have signed just that – he’s a great character and we believe he’s developing into a great player as well which will only benefit us moving forward.”

Regarding Maguire’s potential impact on the playing squad, O’Connor said,

“Peter will add real competition for places in the defensive department. He’s at a good age and has decent experience from playing in this league with Ballinamallard which is exactly what we need to challenge for promotion.”
