SADNESS
Glenavon is saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Edsel Muldrew.
Edsel was a Markethill man born and bred. In 1930 his father opened a butcher’s shop in the County Armagh town. Later, under Edsel’s stewardship, it flourished and became one of the area’s most successful businesses.
Edsel’s Glenavon roots go back to the early 1950s when, as a teenager, he attended his first game and subsequently enjoyed watching the great teams of that era.
By the 1990s he had become one of the club’s most generous and faithful sponsors. For decades he supported every initiative promoted including match sponsorships, programme advertisements, Golf Classic signs, etc. etc. He was frequently asked to get behind fundraising schemes and never refused.
Edsel’s best friend was another Markethill man, the late Noel Dalzell, who in 1997 became President of Portadown Football Club. During the 1990s Edsel and Noel travelled with Glenavon’s official party on virtually all its European excursions.
Edsel was a kind, friendly man who will be much missed.
Sincere condolences are extended to Edsel’s son John, daughters Joy, Janice, and Judith and the wider family circle.
Be Just and Fear Not.
