POSITIVES FROM FIRST MATCH
Glenavon Women 0-3 Loughgall Lakers
Glenavon Women on Friday night began their new adventure in NIWFA playing the early season favourites Loughgall Lakers.
In a keenly contested first half, Glenavon looked to get the ball down and play positive progressive football. The first 30 minutes saw very little in the game until 2 mistakes in the last 15 minutes of the first half, while trying to play out from defence, saw Glenavon punished and Loughgall go into half time 2-0 up.
The second half saw a re-energised Glenavon push and probe Loughgall playing some exciting front foot football. However another error while trying to be positive with 5 minutes to go saw Loughgall extend their lead and the game finished 3-0.
Manager Craig Morrow after the game was full of praise for the team performance “Really proud of the team and pleased with the performance. You have to remember this is a completely new team playing only its second ever match and with only 2 players over 20. We have a stated objective for the squad which is “to grow” as a group.
For me this year will be about development and progression. This is a very good start and standard to have set, we will only get better from here.
Special mention to Holly playing up front on her own, the only thing missing was a goal and to Katie Bradley, who only signed during the week, winning the POTM award. I am excited for the rest of the season and to see how far this group can go.”
