Glenavon spluttered to a goalless draw against Bangor at Clandeboye Park. Crusaders’ 4-0 victory against Portadown means that its now trails the North Belfast club by two points at the bottom of the Sports Direct Premiership table.
To be fair to Michael O’Connor’s side, the strong wind made conditions difficult. The visitors played with the advantage in the first half; the home side had the elements in its favour during the second.
In the fourth minute Peter Campbell shot well wide from distance.
Nathaniel Ferris’s pinpoint header from Campbell’s cross was touched over the bar by Gareth Deane.
When the Richhill man hit another penetrating centre, Conor Falls failed to connect at the near post.
Ferris’s shot from 15 yards hit a defender and was cleared.
Deane stooped to gather Paul McGovern’s shot from the edge of the penalty area.
At the start of the second half, Harry Murphy flicked Campbell’s well hit corner kick just wide of a post.
Michael Morgan shot well over the crossbar.
Tiarnan Mulvenna’s attempted chip was too high.
Mulvenna shot over from 20 yards.
Jacob Carney saved Ben Cushnie’s attempt easily.
Substitute Sean Carlin shot straight at Deane from 18 yards.
Morgan’s near post flick was badly off target.
During the last fifteen minutes, Glenavon, despite playing into the teeth of the wind, had much more possession and constantly threatened.

Paul McGovern’s second half headed effort was cleared off the goal-line.
Murphy headed well over from Campbell’s corner kick.
Teenager Joshua Ritchie shot well over from Reece Neale’s long throw-in.
Kris Lowe’s snapshot from 12 yards was deflected over the crossbar.
Paul McGovern’s header from Campbell’s corner kick was headed off the line by a defender.
From the resultant corner, Conor Falls’s shot was cleared off the line by Stephen McGuinness.
During the closing minutes Glenavon was awarded two free kicks 20-25 yards out. Peter Campbell took both. Each time his attempt cleared the defensive wall but was saved easily by Deane.
Another committed performance by the Lurgan men, but, alas, only one point.

Nathaniel Ferris went close with this first half header which Gareth Deane dived full length to tip over the crossbar.
