Avondale to Sponsor Glenavon Women
Avondale Foods (Craigavon) Limited, Glenavon’s main corporate sponsor, has agreed to extend its commitment to include the club’s Women’s Teams. Later this month the senior 11-aside team will begin their 2026 fixture programme in the NIWFA’s Pathway West Division. Avondale’s generous commitment is a major boost ahead of the new season. “We are delighted that Avondale has agreed to commit to the Women’s Teams,” said Director John Elliott. “Thanks are due to Greer Geddis and everyone at Avondale Foods. These funds will be vital as we look to meet the costs of this exciting new venture.”
Avondale, which signed a three-year sponsorship deal with Glenavon in May 2024, is pleased to be able to assist with the Women’s Teams. “We had no hesitation in agreeing the proposal which the club put to us,” said CEO Greer Geddis. “The profile and popularity of the women’s game have grown exponentially over the last decade. It is natural that Glenavon should want to develop the sport. Hopefully, our commitment will help to make the initiative a successful one.”
In February 2026 Glenavon Women’s Futsal Team won promotion from the Futsal Championship to the Premier Elite League at the first time of asking. The team, managed by Craig Morrow, defeated Ballymena United Ladies 6-1 in the Championship Play-off Final to secure a berth in the top division. Four of the team – Beth Chambers, Sam Kelly, Jessica Rea and Megan Weatherall – secured places in the Northern Ireland Women’s Futsal International Squad. “The team was very consistent throughout the league programme and won its semi-final and final very convincingly,” said John Elliott. “The fact that four players have received international call ups shows the level of quality.”

The senior squad is presently preparing for its first tilt at competitive 11-a-side football. Training sessions take place at Mourneview Park at 8.30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Several of the team were previously with Lurgan Town. Although the nucleus of the team which will begin the new season is in place, it is not yet complete. It needs, in particular, a goalkeeper. If you would like to be involved, why not attend one of the twice weekly sessions? You will be made most welcome.
Meantime thanks again to Avondale Foods (Craigavon) Limited for its ongoing support for both men’s and women’s football at Mourneview Park.
