GLENAVON WOMEN WIN PLAYOFFS

Congratulations to the Glenavon FC Women’s Futsal team who defeated Ballymena 6-1 in the NIFF Women’s Championship Playoff final.

At the end of their debut season in women’s futsal Glenavon FC ran out convincing winners in a final which was close until skipper Megan Weatherall broke the deadlock late in the first half. Her second shortly after meant the Lurgan Blues went into the break 2-0 up.

Ballymena came back fighting in the second half, pulling a goal back within 5 minutes of the restart. However after regaining their composure and control on the game the women pulled away thanks to 2 further goals from Megan and 2 more from Jess Rea. In truth, it could have been an even bigger winning margin but for an excellent performance from the Ballymena goalkeeper.

In the end, a truly dominant display from the Lurgan Blues Women ended in a convincing and thoroughly deserved win.

The club would like to place on record our thanks to coach Craig Morrow and all the women who have made the Glenavon FC Women’s first season such a success.

Next on the agenda for the Glenavon FC Women is the NIWFA Women’s League which gets underway in the middle of April
