SADNESS
Glenavon is saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Taz Glenn, one of its most committed supporters.
Taz, or Thompson, was the fourth of six children. He was brought up in Albert Street, near Lurgan Railway Station. He remained in that area for a long time before moving to the Banbridge Road.
Gifted with his hands and almost entirely self-taught, he established a small building contractors’ business. He laid bricks, did joinery work and completed other related tasks. He did everything to the highest standards.
During the years after the Second World War Taz’s father, Sam, was one of the club’s most dedicated followers. He was a member of the original Glenavon Supporters’ Club and, in the early 1950s, served on the committee which raised funds to pay for the new covered stand on the Glenfield Road side of Mourneview Park. He also sold thousands of tickets for supporters’ buses to away fixtures and revenue-raising draws.
Taz was a longstanding member of the Triangle Supporters’ Club. He rarely missed a home or away fixture.
After home matches and at other times he tidied the Mourneview Park grandstands. Speaking at the 2024 AGM, former chairman Adrian Teer thanked him for his hard work.
He was an unassuming man, but he had a big heart and made an enormous contribution to the life of both the Triangle Supporters’ Club and Glenavon.
Sincere condolences are extended to his family.
Be Just and Fear Not.
