ADRIAN TEER: TONY GRANT
Tony Grant was one of Glenavon’s most talented and popular players of the last thirty years.
He won Coca Cola Cup and Irish Cup winners’ medals during the 1996-97 season and subsequently played in the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
Since retirement he has assisted the club scouting for talent in the Dublin and County Louth areas.
He offered the following tribute:
What can be said about Adrian Teer? For me, he was Glenavon.
I was barely out of my teens at 20 years of age when I met him for the first time. I had arrived at Mourneview Park on loan from Preston and was quite apprehensive. But from the moment we had our first conversation he made me feel that I belonged and was fully part of agreat, family club.
He was completely straight. You always knew where you stood with him. He had words of encouragement when things went well, and he let you know when he felt that you could have performed better.
There were some low points during my Glenavon career, but there were also some tremendous highs. Seeing the broad smile which lit up his face after we had won a trophy made all the hard work worthwhile.
Later, when I had finished playing, he always made me welcome back at Mourneview.
He went about his business in a quiet way and never sought credit for what he achieved.
Quite apart from the trophies the club won under his leadership, he helped to turn Mourneview Park into one of the finest stadiums in the whole of Ireland.
He deserves all the accolades which he has received.
It was an honour to have known him.
Rest easy.
Tony.

Tony Grant receives the Bass “Player of the Semi-finals” award for his two goals in Glenavon’s 5-0 success against Omagh Town on the way to winning the 1996-97 Irish Cup.
