DAVID MARTIN TO RECEIVE MBE
Congratulations to Glenavon supporter and matchday volunteer David Martin on his receipt of an MBE in the King’s New Year’s Honours list. David has been nominated for voluntary service to the community in Lurgan. It is well deserved recognition for, principally, his work as Chairman of the Friends of Brownlow House.
Under David’s leadership, Brownlow House has attracted substantial outside funding to support ongoing work to preserve and protect the building. David has also organised exhibitions, led walking tours of Lurgan, pioneered an educational outreach programme and taken groups to the First and Second World War battlefields in Belgium and France.
David makes a big contribution at Mourneview Park. On matchdays he manages stadium car parking. Supporters appreciate his friendly, pleasant manner. He assisted with the arrangements for the recent Chairman’s Christmas Ball at Brownlow House. Last week he solicited extra stewards to help with the marshalling of the sell-out crowd at the Boxing Day meeting with Portadown.
“Everyone at Glenavon is delighted for David,” said Chairman Glenn Emerson. “He is one of the people who works hard behind the scenes on matchdays and at other times. He goes out of his way to make car park ticket holders feel welcome and has time for everyone. He also continues to lead the efforts to preserve Brownlow House and its history and make it an interesting place for children and others to visit. Well done, David!”
