Linfield FC U20s 4–5 Glenavon FC U20s
Another experienced U20s squad travelled to Midgley Park on Monday evening to take on Linfield U20s.
The first half started brightly for Glenavon when Liam Corr delivered a dangerous cross into the box for Josh Doyle to finish to put Glenavon 1-0 up after two minutes.
Linfield responded on 20 minutes when a quick attacking transition broke Glenavon’s defence, with the young Linfield striker finishing well to make it 1-1.
The Lurgan Blues reacted well when Jamie Doran put Glenavon back in front from a corner on the 26th minute.
Linfield were a constant threat on the break and they punished Glenavon again to make it 2-2 when the Linfield player caught Matthews at his near post with his early shot.
Just before the break Michael O’Connor put Glenavon 3-2 ahead with a great free kick on the edge of the Linfield 18 yard box.
Linfield started the second half much better by controlling possession and continuing to break Glenavon’s defensive line. By 60 minutes Linfield had scored two goals to put themselves 4-3 ahead.
With 20 minutes left Glenavon started to get back into the game and equalized through Josh Doyle after good work from McCloskey on the right hand side.
Ten minutes later Glenavon made it 5-4 when some good play from the Glenavon midfield set up Cohen Henderson who scored the winning goal with his first touch of the game.
An entertaining game from start to finish, but both teams will be disappointed with their defensive performances.
