There’s a local derby in prospect tonight as Glenavon take on Dollingstown at Mourneview Park this evening (7.45pm).

Tonight’s tie in the BetMcLean League Cup is one that Gary Hamilton is keen to secure a victory in, given the club’s record in the competition in recent years.

“It’s a match that we obviously want to win but we have to start right,” the Glenavon boss said.

“Our attitudes need to be right and that has to be the case no matter who we play. We’ve had a couple of upsets in competitions such as this so we need to be fully focused and treat it the same as we treat any other game.”

The manager reports that there are doubts over Rory Brown and Conor McCloskey but everyone else should be available.

Gary added, “Some of our players might get some game time such as Mick O’Connor, who has been out for a while, but we will be going with a team that I feel will be strong enough to win the game if they perform to their capabilities.

“However, it all comes down to desire, attitude and discipline and hopefully we can get that.”

With Saturday’s game being postponed following the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, Glenavon’s focus in recent days has been on tonight’s fixture.

“With the Linfield game called off we went in and did a training session, just in case the Dollingstown game did go ahead,” Gary explained.

“In light of the fact that it is, it was obviously good to get the session done. We played a game between the boys and we got a bit out of it.

“We’ve prepared for tonight’s game so now the job is to make sure that our name is in the hat for the next round.”

Supporters are reminded that a minute’s silence will take place ahead of tonight’s fixture in memory of the late Queen.
