Glenavon U20s (0): (2) Coleraine U20s

Glenavon U20s hosted Coleraine U20s on Monday the 5th of September. With several players called up to the first team for their Mid-Ulster Cup tie vs Rathfriland and with Bobby Harvey called up to Northern Ireland U17s, this created more opportunities for our U18s to step up.

The first half was extremely positive for our young blues as they made life very difficult for Coleraine, by pressing high and having energy all over the pitch. Jesse Turner was unfortunate not to open the score when he found himself one on one with the Coleraine goalkeeper, only for his shot to be well saved by the young keeper. Ben Purvis made sure the game was scoreless at half time by making a smart save from an Andrew Mitchell shot from the edge of the 18 yard box.

The second half continued the same as the first half with both teams working extremely hard to create the opening goal. After 65 mins Coleraine’s experience started to show as they took a grip on the game, and they opened the scoring with an Andrew Mitchell penalty on the 68th minute. Four minutes later an OG made it 2-0 to Coleraine, after a good attack from the visitors.
The young Glenavon side continued to work to the end of the game but couldn’t find the breakthrough.
