Glenavon Football Club extends its gratitude to Michael Scott as he takes a step back from his role as Media Officer.

Michael, who is currently the Head of Digital Content for local news site Your Lurgan, took over as Media Officer in July 2020 following the retirement of long-serving Webmaster/Media Officer Philip Hawthorne.

Since then, Michael has dedicated a lot of time and effort into his role at Glenavon. From Webmaster to monthly magazine show host, his commitment certainly didn’t go unnoticed.

Michael will continue to be a familiar face and voice around the club and on the Glenavon Media YouTube channel too, as he continues his work in front of and behind the camera.

He will be succeeded by current Media Team member Ben Dowey, who steps up from his role as video editor and producer, for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

“Unfortunately my commitments at work have changed and with a young family at home I felt I couldn’t commit the hours necessary to the role,” said Michael

“It’s a role I’ve thoroughly enjoyed doing, even if it was a baptism of fire with lockdown-enforced match commentaries! I’ll still be involved in the Mourneview Monthly and post-match interviews so I’m not totally stepping away.

“I’m proud of how we have developed our output over the past couple of seasons – I know that under Ben’s stewardship it will only get better.

“I’d like to thank the board, Gary and the players and the rest of the media team for everything they have done to help me during my time as Media Officer.”

Ben joined the Glenavon Media Team last season to assist the club with their match day livestreams and to create content for the YouTube channel alongside the rest of the media team.

“Michael took on the role during a tough, tough year for football. He stepped up to the plate and exceeded that which was expected of him,” said Ben.

“2020 was a difficult year for football, with the fans in particular drawing a short straw. The hard work that was put in by Michael and the rest of the guys in the media team was phenomenal.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to take on the Media Officer role and I certainly have big shoes to fill after the job Michael has done.”
