Fans of a certain age may have spotted a Glenavon connection with the ongoing European Championship.
The manager of France Didier Deschamps played for Bordeaux against Glenavon at Mourneview Park in the UEFA Cup first round first leg game in September 1990.
The world class defensive midfielder also played in the return game at Parc Lescure.
Deschamps gained 103 international caps for France, captaining his country to victory in the 1998 World Cup and the European Championship in 2000. He has managed the French international side since 2012.
For the record Glenavon drew the home game 0-0 and lost 0-2 in Bordeaux.  Glenavon team that played against Bordeaux in those two games was:  Beck Davies (McCullough in Bordeaux) Scappaticci McCann Byrne McLoughlin McConville Ferguson Blackledge McBride and Conville
