A Cathair Friel goal in the 93rd minute denied Glenavon what would have been a fully deserved point with Gary Hamilton’s team putting in an excellent performance.
The game was goalless at half time but Friel fired the Sky Blues ahead in the 48th minute after latching onto a cross from Adam Lecky only for Jordan Jenkins to level two minutes later, his third goal of the season, when he did well to control a pass from Sammy Clingan before slotting a low shot beyond the United keeper.
Friel missed a great chance to restore the hosts’ lead in the 69th minute but home keeper Jordan Williamson also made a number of excellent saves in both halves to deny Andrew Doyle, Conor McCloskey, Andy Hall and Josh Daniels.
In the dying seconds a slip by Doyle proved catastrophic as it allowed Lecky to repeat his feat for the first goal and send over a cross to the back post that Friel dispatched past Jonny Tuffey.
Full report to follow tomorrow.
