Following the successful weekend trip to Scotland that saw Glenavon progress to Round 4 of the Tunnock’s Challenge Cup with a 3-0 win against Formartine United, the Lurgan Blues start their defence of the Euro Electrix Mid-Ulster Cup by hosting Rathfriland Rangers on Tuesday night. The game kicks off at 7:45pm and admission costs are £5 and £3. Please note that Season Tickets are not valid.

The teams met before in the competition in September 2017 when Glenavon triumphed 5-1 in the opening round, a young Jack O’Mahony scoring his first goal for Glenavon and gaining an assist for Jordan Jenkins who was named Man of the Match. Former Glenavon striker James Costello was the Rangers scorer, netting a consolation from the penalty spot.

Last Saturday Rathfriland, who are managed by former Glenavon midfielder Aaron Black, defeated Ards Rangers 4-3 and the previous Saturday they beat Shankill United 7-0.

Glenavon progressed to the Final when they beat Newry City 3-1, O’Mahony again on the score sheet. The Lurgan Blues retained the Cup last season, defeating Warrenpoint Town 4-3 in the Final at Mourneview Park.

Gary Hamilton will be giving youth a chance once again as he aims to retain the cup for the third season in a row.
