It is with great sadness that we have to record the death after a short illness of our former goalkeeper Walter Durkan. As our older supporters will recall Walter was goalkeeper as we won three trophies, City Cup, Gold Cup and Ulster Cup, in the 1954/55 season. He was also a member of the squad that won the League and Cup ‘double’ two years later in 1956/57 to add to the Gold Cup won earlier that season, making a total of 111 appearances for the Club.

Although resident in the United States for many years Walter continued to retain a close affection for Glenavon, following our results and games online. At this sad time we would want to pass on our sincere sympathy to his children Brendan, Ciara and Ann-Marie and the entire family circle and would like to assure them that Walter’s contribution to our rich history will not be forgotten.

Be Just and Fear Not.
