Our Irish Cup Quarter Final game with Loughgall on Saturday March 3rd marks the first anniversary of the tragic and sudden death due to a drugs overdose of Philip Millar, the son of our Assistant Manager Paul Millar.

As many of you will know Paul has become actively involved with increasing the awareness of the public to issues of addiction and its terrible consequences through working with and raising funds for Addiction NI, the alcohol and drug treatment charity.

Glenavon FC also announced back in October that Addiction NI had been chosen as the club’s charity partner for the year and the Club has run several fund-raising events. Paul and a number of his friends also took part in the sponsored ‘Sober October’ initiative to raise further funds.

At the Loughgall game on 3rd March Glenavon plan to have a mass balloon release to mark the first anniversary of Philip’s death and to raise, hopefully, a further significant amount for the charity.

Over the next couple of weeks, everyone will have the opportunity to sponsor a balloon. Each person sponsoring a balloon will be given a unique number for entry to a prize draw after the Loughgall match.

The cost of sponsoring each balloon is £5 and the Club will be encouraging players, backroom staff, Directors  and our Supporters clubs to make a big push to maximise the number of balloons sponsored.

If you wish to participate please speak to any player, members of our backroom staff, Directors, Supporters club officials or call in at the Mourneview Park Office (open 9am-12pm and 2-4 Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and 9-12 on Tuesdays).
