After going behind to a 3rd minute Keith Johnston goal Glenavon came back to go in all-square at halftime through a penalty by captain Andy McGrory which was awarded after Jordan Jenkins had been clattered in the area by City keeper Steven Maguire.

A stunning 30 yard drive into the top corner by Stephen McCavitt put the Lurgan Blues ahead in the 52nd minute.

The home side wasted a number of very good opportunities and James Taylor pulled off an amazing save to deny Thomas McCann’s close range effort in the 69th minute before Jack O’Mahony wrapped things up four minutes from time after he burst past a hesitant Newry defender and stroked the ball beyond Maguire.
