Glenavon Under 20s played a strong Cliftonville side last Wednesday and despite going in 2-2 at half time, ended up on the wrong end of a 7-3 score line.

There was a great first half of football played by both teams. Glenavon started off brightly and took a deserved lead thanks to a terrific strike by Stephen McCavitt from the edge of the box. Cliftonville soon equalised with a powerful header scored by their tall centre forward before going ahead against the run of play after 35 minutes. Soon after this Robbie Norton equalised with another fine strike to put the teams level at 2-2 at half time.

Just ten minutes into the 2nd half the young 20s team found themselves 6-2 down as Cliftonville increased the pace of the game with Ruari Harkin making them tick.

Jack O’Mahony had to come off with concussion and a cut eye after 72 minutes but Jordan Jenkins got the score line back to 6-3 on 75 minutes. With a few chances being missed by both teams, the score stayed this way until Cliftonville scored a 7th deep into injury time.
