At a wind swept Loughshore Hotel Arena Andrew Mitchell had appeals for a penalty dismissed after it appeared he was pulled back by Denver gage as he was trying to get his toe to a long ball into the Rangers box. Bobby Burns was unlucky when his low snap shot from the edge of the area struck the outside of Harry Doherty’s post.

It was into first half stoppage time before the breakthrough finally came. Sammy Clingan played a free kick from the centre circle into the right side of the Carrick box and Andy Hall found himself unmarked as the ball dropped and he was able to stroke it across Doherty and into the far corner.

The second goal came late as well when Eamon McAllister upended Bobby Burns in the box and Sammy Clingan smashed the spot kick past Doherty who had made some excellent saves earlier in the second half to deny Mitchell, Burns and Singleton.
