After having been denied twice by superb saves from Elliott Morris, Andrew Mitchell put Glenavon in front in the 24th minute with a shot from just outside the box. Rhys Marshall broke through a tackle and carried the ball towards the Glens box before squaring it to Mitchell who turned before firing a low drive into the bottom corner.

In the second half Adam Foley hit the post and the hosts were denied what looked a clear penalty when Calum Birney threw an arm across Bobby Burns as he ran on to a ball into the Glens box.

Ex-Glenavon striker Robbie McDaid scored twice after coming on as a sub but Glenavon debutant Josh Daniels forced home the equaliser late on and was unlucky not to score the winner only to be denied by another brilliant save by Morris and a defensive block from the resulting corner.

We’ll have a full report later.

(Mitchell 24, Daniels 87) Glenavon 2-2 Glentoran (McDaid 81, 85)
