Glenavon missed a chance to move up to 4th in the table last weekend as defeat at The Oval saw them remain two points behind Linfield who also lost last Saturday. As the Danske Bank Premiership reaches the half-way stage this weekend, a win on Friday night against Carrick Rangers would see the Lurgan Blues move above Linfield, at least overnight.

It won’t be an easy task as Gary Haveron’s Rangers seek a first league win since defeating Ballinamallard United 3-1 at Ferney Park back in September. They were 2-0 up against Portadown at Shamrock Park two weeks ago only to lose 3-2 and lost 2-1 against Coleraine last time out.

In the previous fixture between the sides this season, back in September at Taylor’s Avenue, it took a stoppage time equaliser from Gary Hamilton to earn a 2-2 draw for Glenavon after they had twice gone behind. Hamilton will be looking for his side to continue a great run that has seen them win the last five home games in the League.

“The game against Carrick last time was one of our poorer performances of the season and perhaps some of our players underestimated them but that won’t happen again, ” Gary assured us.

“The result last week at The Oval was disappointing but the boys gave their best and some things just didn’t go our way. It’ll be a different kettle of fish tomorrow night, weather permitting, and we’ll be going all out to make up for last week. We need to show the same sort of effort and commitment that has seen us win the last five home games and win the battle that will allow our quality to come through. The conditions could be very difficult so we’ll have to roll up our sleeves and fight for the points.”
