Having played so well against leaders Linfield last weekend, coming back from 3-1 down to get back to 3-3, only to come away in the end with nothing was hard on Glenavon but Gary Hamilton was pleased with the strength of character shown by his players.
The Glenavon boss is concerned by the fact that, while his free-scoring side has bagged seven goals in the last three league games, they have conceded eight. He reckons the majority of those could have been prevented.
Gary is more than happy with the overall performance levels and, with 21 goals in the ‘for’ column, he says “we are creating and scoring goals and if we can keep up the high work rate then the results will come.
“Dungannon always give us a tough game but, as we always do, we will be focussing on getting three points on Saturday. I’ve been very pleased with the way the lads have been playing and they’re a joy to watch and work with in training, as I was saying to Brian and Windy on Thursday night. If we continue to work hard and get a wee bit of luck, I’m hoping that starting tomorrow, maybe we can go on a wee run.”
Simon Kelly was due to make his return to the squad but has been suffering from a bug and won’t be risked tomorrow. David Elebert is still out with a hamstring problem but Gareth McKeown should resume training this week and will build up his fitness in the reserves. Declan O’Brien is coming back from a hip problem and played 60 minutes in the Reserves on Wednesday night but needs another 90 minutes before returning to the first team squad.
