Joe Royle

Joe Royle

A welcome visitor to Mourneview Park for Saturday’s game will be Everton legend Joe Royle who is now the Professional Development Coach at Goodison Park.

Joe made his debut for the Toffees in 1966 at the age of 16 and went on to make 225 appearances between 1966 and 1974 scoring 102 goals. He was, of course, a member of the team that won the old First Division Championship in 1969/70. After leaving his beloved Everton, England International Joe played for a number of English clubs including Manchester City and Oldham Athletic.

After his playing career ended Joe went into management, initially with Manchester CIty before moving back to Everton in 1994. The highlight of his three year spell in charge came in 1995 when a Paul Rideout goal gave the Blues a one nil victory over Manchester Utd in the FA Cup Final. Joe remains the last Everton manager to win a major trophy. Joe returned to Goodison Park in 2014 as part of the backroom staff under Roberto Martinez.
