Glenavon’s Youth Team takes on Linfield Rangers in the Final of the Harry Cavan Youth Cup at Mourneview Park on Friday night. Why not come along and see some of the GFC stars of the future? Kick off is 7.30pm and Admission is adults £5 and concession £2.

Gary Hamilton says it is great for the boys to be in a final. He spoke to the website this morning to ask us to encourage as many supporters as possible to turn out and cheer the boys on tonight. “This is a great showpiece for the young players that we hope will be coming through to the first team in the future and we hope that a big crowd will turn up to cheer them on. We’re taking them to Harlem in Belfast in the afternoon for a special pre-match meal, just like we did for the First Team ahead of the Irish Cup Final last May. It’s a special occasion for the young lads and we want them to enjoy the whole experience as much as possible.”

“All our efforts in putting out a strong team in the Youth Cup has worked so far and taken the team into the final,” said Hamilton. “This will be a great experience for a young player and win or lose you can learn from the occasion. You want to go on and be involved in even bigger games and finals.”

Glenavon coach Pete Batey is equally impressed with the squad.

“The average age is 16 or 17 so playing in an under 19 tournament and reaching the final is fantastic,” said Pete. “Linfield will start as favourites and rightly so, but we have worked hard and done the basics well. We have goals in the team so we have a chance.”
