Saturday 23rd October |
It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce a new
corporate sponsor for Glenavon Football Club. IVEAGH MOVIE STUDIOS
of Banbridge has agreed a generous deal for 2004/2005 with an option on
a possible extension to next season. It really is a fantastic deal for
the club and one that we have been negotiating for some time. The
agreement includes extensive advertising within the stadium and of
course the corporate logo will be prominent on the team shirts. I hope
our supporters will respond by purchasing the replica shirts, which
should be on sale in the club shop quite soon. The management of Iveagh
Movie Studios has shown confidence in Glenavon and we in turn are
delighted to be associated with such a prestigious and forward thinking
company. I am sure that manager Tommy Kincaid and his team will respond
positively and see us return to the Premier Division where we belong
next season.

GLENAVON APPOINT DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL
26th August 2004: Glenavon Football Club is pleased to
announce the appointment of Colin Forsythe as Director of Football.
Colin will work alongside the manager and backroom staff to coordinate
the promotion and development of football throughout the club.
Colin comes to the club with a rather unique wealth of experience in
both the business and football worlds. At Glentoran Colin considered
himself to be a ‘disciple’ of Roy Coyle and is hoping to bring
something of the professionalism, both on and off the park, learned from
the most successful manager in the Irish League. A thriving business
career ensures that Colin is as comfortable in the boardroom as the
changing room... more
“Glenavon is a ‘big’ club and it is important that we continue
to operate as a ‘big’ club. Certainly all of our resources will be
used towards expediting a speedy return to the premier league.
“I think that it is important that everyone connected with the club
sit down to map out the future we want to see at Mourneview and I think
that this appointment is an ambitious move by the board in that
direction.
“We are working . I honestly think that this could be the start of
something big if we all use our resources and work together. Both under
a number of constraints of course, including finance, but I am convinced
that the quality of the backroom staff here at Mourneview and the
quality that the manager is putting on the park will see us through
Ballymena United and Lisburn Distillery re-grouped and came back as
stronger clubs following relegation. Glenavon will certainly be aiming
to do the same.
“My job will be to see that the football side of things develops
throughout the club and that the manager has the resources he needs to
do his job. I will report to the board to ensure that the right
information is coming from the playing side of things to the directors
so that hopefully the right information will be going back to the
manager and the players.
“I am honoured and delighted to be taking up this post - the
facilities at Mourneview Park are first class, the manager is putting
together an exciting squad of players, I have the backing of the Board
of Directors and the fans are fantastic – who wouldn’t be?”
Tommy Kincaid is delighted to add Colin to his backroom team.
"I'm building a team around me here not only to get us back into
the Premier Division but to keep us there, competing for the top. I'm
lucky to have good people around me, David McCallan, Wayne McMeekin,
Wilbert McFetridge, Andy Harwood and now Colin. I know these guys. I
trust them.
"Colin knows the game inside out and has a wealth of experience
in football administration. Having Colin on board is a great boost and
will allow me to concentrate on football and winning."
A JOB WELL DONE
13th August 2004: Glenavon's Commercial Manager, Ian McCollum,
has given notice to the Board of Directors that it is his intention to
retire from the position of commercial manager on the last day of the
2004/2005 season. He will also be stepping down as a director of the
club. Ian has advised the board that they should, without delay, begin a
search for a suitable successor to the position of commercial manager
and that the appointee begins to work in parallel with him at the
earliest opportunity in order to effect a seamless handover at the end
of the season. Hence his reason for giving almost ten months notice of
intention.
The new commercial manager will not necessarily be a director of the
club. Ian stated "After more than three years in what is an
extremely demanding and time consuming position it will be the right
time to step aside and make way for someone with fresh thinking and a
new approach. I want everyone connected to the club to know that it has
been, and remains, an honour and a privilege to serve as commercial
manager and a director the football club that I have supported since
childhood and will continue to support in the future".
Club chairman, Roy Ferguson, complimented Ian's work, "Ian has
been, and remains an important asset to the club. As Commercial Manager
he has done a remarkable job in not only securing much needed
sponsorship and advertising revenue, but in establishing a firm
relationship with local businesses, securing for them a complete service
and match day hospitality.
"Ian's contribution goes far beyond the financial however. I
have relied on his enthusiasm and wisdom many times at both a personal
level and in the boardroom, and I consider it to have been a privilege
to work with him."
As far as Ian's replacement is concerned, I would appeal to anyone
with suitable business experience should contact me in order to arrange
an interview. We would like to bring the new person into the frame as
soon as possible in order that he, or she, could work alongside Ian over
the next number of months and so ensure a seamless development of the
role."

Glenavon's Youth Development Officer Seamus Heath would like to
invite all young Glenavon fans to take up the opportunity to be the team's
mascot for a day.
Mascots meet the players, have their photo taken with their favourite player,
receive a match programme and tickets for the Geddis Stand for themselves and
their parents.
