BLUES
BEAT TOBERMORE
Glenavon recorded
a third straight Daily Mirror Trophy victory by beating Tobermore United
2-1 on Tuesday night. A goal in the first half by Peter Withnell and a
second half strike by substitute Miguel Chines seemed to have sealed the
win until Andy McDonald allowed a 30 yard free kick from Kieran Loughran
to squirm under his body. This led to a nervous final few minutes but
Chines was unlucky not to double his tally in the 88th minute when his
point blank near post header was well saved by Hassan. Match

BIZARRE
DECISION?
The Mid Ulster Football Association have advised that the final of
the Bob Radcliffe Cup will be played on 27th December at Stangmore Park,
Dungannon. Should either Glenavon or Armagh City qualify for the final,
this fixture with would take precedence over the home League
fixture with Armagh on this popular date.

DIRECTOR
OF FOOTBALL APPOINTED
Glenavon Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Colin
Forsythe as Director of Football. Colin will work alongside the
manager and backroom staff to coordinate the promotion and development
of football throughout the club.
Colin comes to the club with a rather unique wealth of experience in
both the business and football worlds. At Glentoran Colin considered
himself to be a ‘disciple’ of Roy Coyle and is hoping to bring
something of the professionalism, both on and off the park, learned from
the most successful manager in the Irish League. A thriving business
career ensures that Colin is as comfortable in the boardroom as the
changing room... more

BLUES
WIN SEASON OPENER
Glenavon won
today's season opening fixture in the Daily Mirror Trophy by defeating
Oxford United Stars 2-1 at Mourneview Park. Jim McCloskey's excellent
header from Gareth Walsh's precision cross from the right and Walsh
himself with a shot from 18 yards after the Stars' keeper could only
parry a pile driver from Johnny Wright had given the home side a 2-0
lead and they were looking comfortable. Three minutes after Walsh's goal
Glenavon almost extended the lead when a header from a corner crashed
off the bar but a fine lob by Stars' striker Graham Brown in first half
injury time gave the visitors a lift and Glenavon's second half
performance was noticeably more sluggish.
Glenavon came close to scoring on a number of occasions in the second
half, with Peter Withnell's cross-shot forcing Walker to tip the ball
over his crossbar and Miguel Chines was very unlucky to hit the post
after Barry Reid picked him out at the near post with a low cross into
the six yard area. McCloskey sent a left foot curler dipping just over
the bar and Walker held a close range effort from Withnell in the last
minute. Report

CAMLIN
CRACKER
Glenavon 4 - 1 Coleraine
Kenny Camlin's brilliant fourth goal capped off a very satisfactory
night for Glenavon in this friendly against Coleraine. The Bannsiders
had taken the lead through a Sean Armstrong lob in the 23rd minute
before Peter Withnell equalised with a left foot shot that just crept inside
the post. In the second half he spurned a great chance to give the Blues
the lead after Miguel Chines had set him up but the home side did go
ahead thanks to a 71st minute own goal when Jim McCloskey's corner
caused confusion in the Coleraine defence. O'Hare then saved a Peter
Withnell penalty, awarded when McCloskey was tripped, before Chines, the
former Linfield winger who was guesting for the home side, produced a
confident finish when he outpaced the defence and rounded O'Hare. Kenny
Camlin then rounded off the victory with a brilliant strike from wide on
the left that gave the Coleraine 'keeper no chance.

Teams:
Glenavon: McDonald, Wright, Hyndes (Savage), Clifford
(McShane), McDonagh, Murray, Reid, Walsh (Camlin), Withnell, McKnight (Chines),
McCloskey
Coleraine: O'Hare, I Clanachan, Black (Spratt), McVeigh, S
Clanachan, Beattie, McKee (Nicholl), Johnson, Armstrong, McAllister,
Neil (Henderson)
Tommy
Kincaid was delighted with the performance, comprehensively beating
Coleraine 4-1. The team's confidence at the back and passing ability,
not to mention goal scoring opportunities created and actually taken
left him very satisfied with a job well done. He is keeping his feet
firmly on the ground however and "would swap tonight's result for
three points in our first league match".
GLENAVON
WELCOME NEW CHAPLAIN
|

|
|
Glenavon's new Chaplain is the Rev William Orr,
curate of the Shankill parish in Lurgan. William is a native of
Rathfriland and has been a life long follower of the Lurgan
Blues. "To be Chaplain of Glenavon is something more than
just a job. It is from the heart. I have a passion to see young
men come to Christ but also to know that to be a Christian
doesn't compromise one's manhood. I want to help break down the
stereotype which has very often put people off Christianity.
Real men can be real men, but with that cutting edge to them
which they demonstrate in their daily living".

GLENAVON
SCORE FOUR
In Monday's friendly at Tarsan Lane, Glenavon had a 4-1
victory over Seagoe who are celebrating their 25th Anniversary Year.
Glenavon opened the scoring through a header by Stephen Hawe from
Kenny Camlin's right wing corner. Seagoe equalised from the spot after
Andy McDonald brought down the Seagoe striker. Tommy Kincaid made six
changes at half time and eventually, in the 71st minute, the Blues
regained the lead through a Jim McCloskey header from Pete Batey's flick
on. McCloskey extended the lead two minutes later when he steered
a low cross from Tony McShane into the net. Pete Batey added the fourth three
minutes from time after Paul McKnight unselfishly squared the ball
leaving him a simple task of rolling the ball past the stranded keeper.
Squad:
McDonald, Clifford, Savage, McShane, Hawe, McMinn, McAlorum, McNamee,
Camlin, Batey, McCloskey. subs: Hyndes, McDonagh, Reid, Murray,
McKnight, Wright.
