ACES FLYING HIGH

It seemed like all roads led to Mourneview Park on Friday night of 14th March as the Glenavon
Academy launched the “Glenavon Aces” mini soccer school. At its height the queue
to register with the “Aces” stretched from the Directors box in the Geddis Stand
and down into the car park as the Glenavon stars of the future eagerly awaited
their chance to run out onto the hallowed turf of Mourneview Park.
It was difficult to know which shone brighter, the Mourneview floodlights or the
smiles on the 150 plus young Aces as even the rain failed to dampen their
spirits. Awaiting them was the coaching team from Evo’s Soccer Skills, which
included Glenavon star Gerard McMahon, Coagh United manager Stephen Upritchard,
ex Glenavon player Paul Evans and a number of Glenavon Academy Coaches.
Glenavon Academy Coordinator Gordon Wylie expressed his delight at the fantastic
turnout which included boys and girls from Lurgan and surrounding areas,
Lisburn, Banbridge, Newry, Markethill and Portadown. Gordon was especially
pleased to see that the entire community was represented regardless of religion
or ethnic background.
The Glenavon Aces will be back at Mourneview Park on Friday 28th March as the
European Under 17 Championship take centre stage next weekend and all the Aces
received complimentary tickets to the games.

assisting the sporting development of young people from the town and the
district".

CARDIAC RISK FOR THE YOUNG
Every week 8 'apparently' fit and healthy young people die in
the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions.
Glenavon Academy recommends that all our young players over the age of
14 visit the C.R.Y.
website.
A 12 lead ECG costs £35.00 and offers the potential for detecting most
potentially lethal cardiovascular conditions.
Leaflets are available from the club or by contacting Gordon Wylie
