Vastly experienced defender Eddie McCallion signed a two year deal with Glenavon following today’s friendly against Duleek AFC against whom he played the full 90 minutes at centre half.
The 33 year old has spent almost his entire career playing for his home town club Derry City, apart from a season with Blackburn Rovers, and he was given a rapturous send off last Friday night when he came on as a stoppage time substitute against Shamrock Rovers at the Brandywell. Usually playing at right back, Eddie has also played at centre back when required.
Eddie, who was watched by his family at today’s game, is delighted with the opportunity Gary Hamilton has offered him, “I am really looking forward to the start of my first season with Glenavon. The pitch is superb and the facilities here are excellent and everyone has made me and the family very welcome. I want to go on playing football for as long as I am able to compete at the top level and I appreciate Gary giving me the opportunity to do that with Glenavon.”
