Glenavon slipped to a Club record ninth successive League defeat despite a
battling performance which saw the Lurgan Blues take a 13th minute lead through
an excellent David Bracken goal. Although the Swifts had a couple of chances
before Bracken's opener, the home side played some neat passing football in the
first half and went in at the interval still leading 1-0. It was a different
story in the second half with a fired-up Swifts side putting Alan Fraser's side
under intense pressure and it seemed only a matter of time before they got the
equaliser.

Glenavon's goal at Mourneview against Dungannon Swifts |
After the visitors got off to the brighter start with McAlister firing over
from McGinn’s 9th minute cross, it was David Bracken who got the vital opening
goal for Glenavon when he chested down McDonnell’s header from Carville's free
kick, swivelled and volleyed in one move past Nelson. Murphy was called into
action a minute later to block Forker’s close range effort and then Harper
tested Nelson with a long range effort in the 18th minute. Another Carville free
in the 21st minute almost led to a second when it took a deflection off the wall
and hit the cross bar with Nelson grasping thin air.
Glenavon failed to deal with a 29th minute corner and were grateful when
McMinn’s low cross-shot back across the area went narrowly wide of the far post.
The visitors almost pulled level in first half stoppage time from a quick
corner on the right when it took two goal line clearances, with McDonnell
bravely throwing his body in the way of Forker’s close range blast.
McAllister had a decent chance to equalise in the 48th minute when he blasted
well wide from a good position as the Swifts started the second half in positive
mood. The impressive Paul Carville was forced off in the 55th minute with a
groin injury and the loss of his attacking threat, so evident in the first half,
was a major factor in Glenavon's inability to force Swifts onto the back foot
during most of the second half.
A quick break in the 62nd minute led to a chance for McAllister as he turned
in the box but Murphy made a good save at the base of his post. Glenavon then
broke up field with Magennis feeding the ball across the area to Walsh who had
his shot blocked before going down under a challenge as he tried to get onto the
rebound. As Walsh lay prostrate in the Swifts' penalty box and Glenavon putting
the ball out, Alan Fraser was disappointed that the visitors did not return it
and ultimately this led to the equaliser in the 66th minute when McGinn’s superb
curling shot from 20 yards came back off the post and McMinn poked it home at
the back post. The injury Walsh sustained forced him off, with a badly bruised
ankle bearing the stud marks from the earlier challenge, just after the
equaliser with Sammy Stewart coming on.
Murphy made a brilliant save to turn McAree’s 76th minute well-struck free
kick wide as it threatened to creep inside his right hand post but he was
helpless when half-time substitute Austin Friel put Swifts ahead in the 81st
minute, firing in from inside the six yard box as McAllister crossed from the
right after a Glenavon attack had broken down.
