Glenavon lost again in the penultimate CIS Group match with Conor Hagan's 11th minute strike proving the difference in a dour match of precious few chances. With Barry Reid injured and Gerard McMahon failing a late fitness test, Gavin McDonnell moved to right back with Trinidad and Tobago International Atiba Charles slotting in alongside Aaron Black in the centre of defence; Neil Gawley earning a recall to fill the number 7 shirt. Paul Walsh, who had impressed on the right flank against Larne in the last match, was unavailable today as he was on holiday. Other recent signings Andy Forsythe and Brian Mallon started on the bench.

Hagan curled a left foot shot inside the near post from the right corner of the box after Glenavon failed to clear and the ball found its way across the edge of the area to the White's winger. The home side's two central defenders Aaron Black and debutant Atiba Charles combined to nearly restore parity in the 24th minute when Black's low cross from the bye-line was just cleared off the toe of the Trinidadian as he was about to stab the ball over the line from close range.

Atiba was impressive in the air

Hagan had a good chance to double the lead in the 32nd minute when Murphy picked him out in the box by a diagonal ball but he rather miss-hit his shot and that gave Rice the chance to make a save. Two minutes later Knight had a great chance as McConnell's cross gave him a free header from 8 yards but his downward header lacked power and Mathews was able to save with his legs.

Conor Walsh was excellent in Glenavon's midfield.

Just before half time Hunter blocked a clearance from Spence but his 20 yard curled effort never really tested Mathews.

Davy Hawthorne wins the ball in the Distillery penalty area

Right at the start of the second half McConnell had a great chance to equalise but he got his header from 12 yards all wrong after Ross Black had crossed. Atiba Charles made a rare error in the 66th minute when he lost the ball and Rice did well to stand tall and block McLaughlin's effort, with the Trinidadian getting back to clear the loose ball. In the final minutes Ciaran Quinn's powerful free kick was parried over the bar by Mathews.
