Glenavon's excellent away form continued with this well-deserved but
ultimately hard fought victory at
Drumahoe. The Lurgan Blues got off to the ideal start with a second minute
penalty slammed into the net by Shea Campbell after Ogilby pulled back Aidan
McVeigh as he got on the end of Campbell's flick on from a right wing throw.
McVeigh had started in place of the injury-hampered Marty Verner who started on
the bench.

Shea Campbell steps up to smash home the penalty |
Four minutes after the opener Glenavon threatened to double the lead, first
O'Connor's low cross from the left evaded everyone but Campbell was first to the
loose ball and his pin-point near post ball was met by McVeigh but unfortunately
he directed his shot wide.

Aidan McVeigh's near post effort flashes inches wide |
Montgomery dithered in possession and was dispossessed by Ngoma but the hosts
failed to capitalise with Sproule's shot ending up high and wide.
With a half hour gone Walsh won the ball on the left wing and put over a
great cross from the bye line that was met by the in-rushing Campbell but his
volleyed effort flew a couple of yards wide. Two minutes later O'Connor popped
up at the near post and almost got a decisive touch to Campbell's centre but
Ramsey was just able to gather the ball on his line.
In the 41st minute Montgomery played a peach of a ball up to Campbell and he
turned and shot from the edge of the box, his effort flashing just wide of the
post. Within 30 seconds, though, Aaron Black did grab a second for Glenavon when
he glanced McMahon's in-swinging free kick over the head of the young 'Stute
keeper.

Aaron Black (4) rises to glance the ball past the
helpless keeper for what proved to be the winning second goal. |
Within the first five minutes of the second half Gawley looped a spectacular
overhead kick over the bar and McVeigh brought a fine save from Ramsey but after
that, the home side, switching after the interval from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2
formation, took control and were much more positive and a fine 68th
minute strike by half-time substitute Andrew Sproule gave them hope but Glenavon
held on to extend their unbeaten run to four games.
Gerard McMahon had to be helped off the pitch ten minutes from time after he
was caught by a late challenge from Ruiari Boyle. Although it looked like a
potentially serious injury at the time, Jimmy Brown confirmed after the match
that McMahon was okay, though suffering from a lot of bruising to his foot.
