Percy 31,Topley 62, Emerson 67, Black 82

Glenavon started this game slowly and never really got going at any stage. As early as the second minute Walker had to clear off the line from Emerson's header and ten minutes later McAlinden cleared an effort from Johnny Black with his heel. The best Glenavon could muster in that period was a shot from the edge of the area by Walker that Robinson saved comfortably.

The opening goal came in the 31st minute when Percy slammed the rebound into the roof of the net after McDonald had done well to keep out Emerson's header from Topley's free kick. Two minutes later the veteran ex-Glenavon player's diving header would have doubled the lead but for a great save by McDonald. It was Reid to the rescue in the 36th minute when he cleared Guy's header off the line. Seconds later Glenavon could have scored an unlikely equaliser when the visitor's defence failed to clear the ball and it broke to Shea Campbell but his shot did not really trouble Robinson.

Darragh Peden launches himself for a header from a Loughgall corner

Scott Walker was cautioned for an altercation after the half time whistle and he was replaced for the second half by Robbie Farrell, with Jim Brown reverting to a 3-4-3 formation. This didn't really work with Loughgall able to exploit the width but Verner went close with a chip from the edge of the box that Robinson got back in time to deal with it.

Any chances of grabbing an unlikely point were dashed when McDonald failed to keep out Topley's in-swinging corner just after the hour mark. Emerson made the game safe when he poked home the rebound after McDonald parried McCordick's shot, with Topley's cross-field pass setting up the youngster.

Shea Campbell watches as Marc Robinson gathers a shot.

Campbell had a chance to pull a goal back in the 70th minute when he got on the end of Gawley's trough ball but he elected to try to go around the keeper and Robinson managed to divert the ball for a corner with Verner standing unmarked waiting for a square pass that never came. Verner almost got a consolation minutes later when he controlled a through ball and fired in a low shot that Robinson turned around the post. The Villager's keeper denied Campbell with his legs in another one-one-one before Johnny Black finished off a flowing move of real quality involving Topley and McCordick again to complete the scoring for the visitors.

Marty Verner is determined to get to the ball before Paul Harbinson

"It was a shambles" was Glenavon manager Jim Brown's reaction after the game and few Glenavon fans would argue with that assessment.
