This match was widely billed as a must-win game for both sides in the relegation battle but in the end it was a case of them cancelling each other out, with Glenavon recording a rare clean sheet.

The first half was a quiet affair with Divin's 25 yard shot easily saved by McDonald, an O'Connor volley over the bar from Verner's cross and Black hooking the ball over is head and onto the top of the bar being the highlights.

Gerard McMahon played up front with Paul McKnight unable to start with a thigh injury.

In the second half Fanthorpe put a header narrowly wide for the visitors in the 59th minute and two minutes later, after Hyndes' shot had hit Verner, the striker did well to control the ball and turn but he dragged his shot wide.

Fanthorpe (5) gets above everyone and heads narrowly wide

In the 66th minute McAlinden got his head to a deep corner from McMahon but, with Connolly back-pedalling, the big defender put his header into the side netting.

Glenavon players appeal for a goal

Most of the action came in the final 15 minutes with McDonald making a good save to keep out Divin's lob and Aidan McVeigh having a 'goal' correctly ruled out for handball after he bundled the ball over the line from Verner's corner.

Darren McCready, an early substitute for 'Stute, crashed a 25 yard shot off the bar 12 minutes from time and Kevin Ramsay put a free header onto the roof of the net 60 seconds later. McVeigh then dragged a shot just wide with Connolly beaten before Black somehow managed to back heel the ball over the bar from 3 yards out after O'Connor nodded down Gawley's long throw.
