A great all-round display of super football and a superb goal-keeping
performance from Andy McDonald saw Glenavon safely through to a Quarter-Final
tie against either Linfield or Loughgall.

Marty Verner gets away from Stuart Clanachan |
Marty Verner gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute with a great finish
past O'Hare after good play by McKnight and an incisive pass from Hyndes but it
took a number of brilliant stops from McDonald to deny Boyce and Anderson and
ensure that Glenavon held onto that lead until the half time interval.
Walsh could have doubled the lead in the 19th minute but he put a header a
foot wide at the near post when he found himself unmarked from O'Connor's cross.
Seconds later good play on the Glenavon left saw Hyndes clever back heel put
Reid clear and his cutback was well struck by Verner but blocked by a defender
and then he sliced his follow up across the goal mouth.
For the visitors Carson flashed over a dangerous low cross which was just
missed by Ferry as he slid in at the back post. Coleraine went close again three
minutes later when Watt's throw in was flicked on at the near post and McDonald
made a brilliant point blank save to deny Boyce and then he blocked Anderson's
follow up shot. It took another excellent save to deny Boyce again when McDonald
had to get down well to deny the young striker's low shot at his near post.

Andy McDonald turns one round the post |
McKnight then saw his dipping free kick well tipped over by O'Hare before
McDonald was called into action again as he rushed off his line to block Boyce's
effort as he broke onto a long clearance.
The 41st minute saw Coleraine fans appealing for a penalty and the home fans
shouting 'dive' as Boyce once again found himself clean through with only
McDonald to beat after a woefully under hit back pass from Walsh left his keeper
exposed. Boyce flicked the ball wide of McDonald and went down claiming for a
penalty but Mr McCourt waved play on as the ball ran out for a goal kick.

Aaron Black celebrates his goal, Glenavon's
second. |
In the first minute of the second half O'Connor spun on a ball about 12 yards
out as McKnight's free kick squeezed through the wall but his shot went straight
to O'Hare.
A 53rd minute back post header by Aaron Black from McKnight's corner should
have ended any lingering hopes of a Bannsiders comeback but, to be fair to them,
they never gave up and the hosts were grateful to McDonald for another couple of
brilliant saves that kept out Ferry's 54th minute looping header and a
goal-bound deflection off Davy McAlinden that he kept out after starting to go
the wrong way.

Paul McKnight showed what a class footballer he is |
In between Stephen Hyndes spurned a great chance when he rushed a shot and
blasted over from 8 yards after another McKnight free kick broke through the
Coleraine wall and O'Connor laid the ball back to him.
The game was finally put to bed with a penalty from sub Gerard McMahon in the
dying moments when Davy O'Hare, after gathering the ball safely, bizarrely
pushed Conor Walsh.
The standing ovations received by McKnight and Verner after they were
substituted later on was testament to the excellent understanding that the two
front men seem to have developed and the high standard of their football today.
