Gary Hamilton finds himself with only 16 fit players for tonight’s League Cup Quarter Final. Paddy McCourt (calf), Kyle Neill (hamstring), Eoin Bradley (Achilles), David Elebert (calf) and Joel Cooper (suspended) are all out.

At half time it remains scoreless but it’s been a free flowing game with both sides moving the ball about neatly but so far it’s been defences on top.

Greg Moorhouse finally got the better of Peter Burke in the 56th minute when he ran unopposed from his own half before unleashing a low shot from 25 yards that the Reds keeper managed to fingertip onto the inside of the post but it wasn’t enough to keep the ball out.

David McDaid equalised in the 68th minute when his weak shot seemed to deflect off the heel of Kris Lindsay before trickling over the line at the base of the post.

In stoppage time a slick passing move by Glenavon with Bates laying the ball off to Rhys Marshall saw Burke pull off a fantastic save to turn the midfielder’s low shot round the post.

With the scores level after 90 minutes the game goes to 15 minutes each way of extra time.

Andy McGrory restored Glenavon’s lead in the 6th minute of extra time with a left foot volley into the bottom corner from a layoff by subsitute Guy Bates. McGrory celebrated with a Jamie Vardy mannequin pose!

McGrory made it 3-1 from the penalty spot (yes!) after Burke brought down Fabio O’Brien as he ran onto Sykes’ perfectly weighted ball into the Reds box.

Reds subsitute Stephen Garrett stabbed the ball over the line in the final minute of extra time after Jason McGuinness had headed down Martin Donnelly’s corner. In the end it wasn’t enough and the Reds four year tenure as League Cup holders came to an end thanks to a spirited and energetic Glenavon performance.
