David Elebert fails to make the squad due to a calf strain but this gives young Caolan Marron his first league start for Glenavon. Andrew Doyle is alongside him at centre back with Rhys Marshall in central midfield.

No goals in the first half but Jamie Douglas did have the ball in the net with a low shot into the bottom corner for Ards in the 14th minute but it was disallowed for offside. It appears that Joe McKinney, in an offside position, had made a move to touch the ball.

Four minutes later McKinney’ good touch to a long ball over the top allowed him a run on goal and only a great save by Jonny Tuffey denied the Ards frontman. McMullan rattled the crossbar with a header from a Kyle Cherry corner and Jonny Taylor wasted a good chance from another corner, blasting high and wide from a Friar’s knock down.

Glenavon came closest to scoring in the final minute of the half when Eoin Bradley raced down the right onto a ball from Greg Moorhouse. He cut inside and it took a great save by Aaron Hogg to deny the striker,

Glenavon was awarded a penalty in the second minute of the second half when McMullan brought down Bradley after some great trickery on the edge of the box by Joel Cooper. Glenavon keeper Jonny Tuffey took the spot kick but his opposite number made a great save pushing the ball onto the bar and a defender headed it out for a corner.

In the 59th minute Ards players were claiming for a penalty when a shot from substitute Guillaume Keke bounced up and struck the arm of Kyle Neill as he slid on the AstroTurf but Referee Tavinder waved them away.

Glenavon went ahead in the 63rd minute when Hogg brilliantly saved a 20 yard shot from Rhys Marshall but the ever-alert Moorhouse nipped in to tuck away the rebound.
