In last night’s  friendly a young Glenavon side, with only four regular first team squad players in the starting XI, were defeated 2-0 by an impressive Derry City side. The best chance in the early part of the game actually fell to the home side but Player Manager Gary Hamilton saw his effort blocked. Later impressive young winger Jack O’Mahony almost played in Hamilton after a fine run. The visitors took the lead just before half time when defender Aaron Barry powered home a header from a corner on the right. Early in the second half the Candystripes increased their lead through Nathan Boyle. After that a number of substitutions by both sides disrupted the rhythm of the game though the visitors continued to have the majority of possession with Jack Ferguson, a second half substitute for Jonny Tuffey, making a series of fine saves.

Starting XI: Tuffey, Marron, Savage, Murray, K Lynch, O’Mahony, Martyn, Kilmartin, Wardlow, Hamilton, Mcllmail

Substitutes: Ferguson, Kelly, Delaney, Lynch, Chambaud, Ferguson, McKeown
