GAME OFF

Today’s game has been called off following a pitch inspection due to the heavy overnight snow.

Saturday’s visit of Glentoran is the first of a league and cup double-header between the two sides, tomorrow’s league game at Mourneview Park being followed up next Saturday with a visit to The Oval for a Tennents Irish Cup 6th Round tie.

With, weather permitting, a visit to Carrick on Tuesday night for a re-arranged league game, this will be a busy and important week for Gary Hamilton’s Glenavon team.

The visitors will be keen to avoid a fifth successive league defeat and bounce back from last week’s 4-0 home loss to bottom of the table Warrenpoint Town. Gary has his players well prepared for a potential backlash from Alan Kernaghan’s Glens as he looks to maintain Glenavon’s excellent form and keep up the push to finish as high up the table as possible. “We’re at the stage in the season when every game is meaningful and its all about getting wins as teams are either fighting for their lives or trying to push up the table. We expect it to be a tough game tomorrow and hopefully we will put in the sort of performances that we have been doing and come away with the right result.

“Playing the same team in quick succession is never easy and, as we saw with Linfield and Ballymena recently, it’s very difficult to win both games but we’ll certainly be trying our hardest to do that.”

Andy Hall has trained both nights this week after coming off following a clash of knees at Dungannon last weekend and he’s fit to continue his impressive debut season with Glenavon against the Glens tomorrow. The winger, who already has five goals and 16 assists to his credit, is set to miss Tuesday’s re-scheduled game as he has picked up his 5th caution of the season but, if that game doesn’t go ahead then Hall will have to sit out the Irish Cup game next Saturday. “Andy’s been excellent for us but whichever game he misses, there are others who have been waiting patiently for their chance,” Gary concluded.
