As previously announced, Glenavon will travel to the Dublin area for a pre-season friendly on Saturday July 29th. It has now been confirmed that this will be versus Cherry Orchard FC and the game will kick-off 1pm.
It has been suggested for any fans planning to travel to the game that the Club can be found near to Cherry Orchard Hospital. Directions from the Cherry Orchard website are here. The Senior team plays at the Elmdale pitches.
Tonight’s pre-season game at Newry City ended in a victory for the Lurgan Blues. New signing Marc Griffin opened the scoring in the first half following a mix-up in the City defence and young striker Jordan Jenkins added a double after the break, Andy McGrory and Andy Hall providing the assists. Marty Haveron replied from the penalty spot for the hosts.
Thanks to @NewryCityAFC for this evening’s game and best wishes for the new season ahead.
The pre-season friendly v Dundela (A) scheduled for Tuesday 1st August has been cancelled and will be replaced on that date by PSNI (A). KO time to be confirmed.
We had a chat with Paul Millar ahead of Monday night’s pre-season game against the Crystal Palace development squad and the Glenavon Assistant Manager expects a good work out for the Lurgan Blues squad. “Gary is planning to give a number of our young lads a game and actually we’re really looking forward to getting playing on our own pitch. It’s probably the best pitch in the Irish League and this year is the best I’ve ever seen it. To be fair to Geordie (Swift, Glenavon grounds-man) it’s some job he’s done; he’s really excelled himself – it looks absolutely magnificent.
“We play Newry on Thursday and Banbridge on Saturday so it’ll be a tight week but the lads had a good session of training on Saturday morning and these games are an important part of their preparations as we push towards the start of the season. Adam Foley has been flying and Marc Griffin is looking good and the young guys like Bobby Burns are going well.
“Hopefully it’ll be a nice night and we’ll see a few of our supporters out,” Paul concluded.
Admission prices for the game, which kicks off at 7:45pm, are £8 and £5.
We’d like to avoid any potential confusion regarding the Crystal Palace friendly which may have arisen. The game will be played at Mourneview Park next Monday July 17th, kick off 7:45pm, not tonight as stated in some of the local media today.
Glenavon has arranged a further three pre-season games, with Knockbreda, Dundela and Ballyclare Comrades the opposition. All the games are away.
- July 27th: Knockbreda, 7:15pm
- August 1st: Dundela, 7:15pm
- August 5th: Ballyclare Comrades, 3:00pm
We hope to shortly be able to confirm our opponents in the Dublin area for the friendly on July 29th.
