It is with great sadness that we have to record the passing of our former player Jim McKinstry. A tall, commanding defender Jim was signed from Distillery in 1959 by the late Jimmy McAlinden and went on to be ever present in the side that were crowned League Champions in 1960 and Irish Cup winners the following year. During his four seasons at Mourneview Park, Jim made a total of 119 appearances for the Lurgan Blues.

Many older supporters will have fond memories of his outstanding performance in the famous 5-1 victory over Linfield in the 1961 final at Solitude. Condolences are offered to his sons John, Gary and Peter and all the family circle at this very sad time. His remains will be removed from his home 4 Branch Road, Larne on Wednesday morning at 11.15 am for funeral Mass in St Anthony’s church at 12 noon. Interment is afterwards in Larne Cemetery.

Be Just and Fear Not.
