Glenavon hit the road again this Saturday to take on Ballymena United – which should mean that there are plenty of goals in store for anyone making the trip to the Showgrounds.

In fact, there have been a grand total of 49 goals in the last 10 games between the two teams. You have to go back to December 2013 to find the last 0-0 draw between the two teams – and the last one before that was in January 2008.

The Lurgan Blues go into the game midway through a busy Christmas period, with a game away to Ards still to come this Tuesday night.

On Boxing Day they secured another vital three points against Warrenpoint Town, although First Team Coach, Kris Lindsay, admits it wasn’t easy.

“Christmas time is a busy time and we told the boys before the game that it was important that we didn’t come away with anything less than three points,” he said.

“Our performance [against Warrenpoint] was nowhere near where we have been for most of the season and the players know that themselves. I think we looked a bit tired, and playing with 10 men for the last half hour against Dungannon took a wee bit out of the players’ legs.

“We have a small squad so there wasn’t really any changes from that team and I think you could tell.”

Kris says that the coaching staff will be setting the team up to go again against the Sky Blues.

He added, “Our games with Ballymena are always tough, physical encounters, so we’ll prepare right over the next few days, get the boys freshened up a little and get a little bit more energy into the legs. Hopefully we can go there and get three more points.”

They will be boosted by the return of James Singleton to the squad following his one-match ban for his red card against Dungannon Swifts.

Simon Kelly may also return to the squad, while Andy Hall will feature for the reserves tomorrow along with a number of the younger players who have been on the bench in recent weeks in order to give them game time.
